Disability, from a first person perspective and in relationship to the objective world, is usually guised in the triumphant with a focus on overcoming. In this poem I wanted to give voice to the pain, to create a window for individuals to peer into the world of disability. This poem was written to give voice to thoughts that race through my mind when I watch someone try to figure out what happened to me. It seems we can empathize with what one has faced but we cannot experience it ourselves and this vulnerability is necessary to developing understanding and connection to that which is "Other."
