Abstract

This paper is a compare and contrast of two climate change books: Elizabeth Kolbert’s The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History and Naomi Klein’s This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs The Climate. Although both take on a similar subject matter (human-caused climate change), both offer a unique perspective with vastly different outcomes. Whereas Kolbert provides an easy-to-read understanding of how humans are destroying Earth, she falls short of providing a solution. In contrast, Klein’s intimidating read ultimately leaves one with feelings of hope.
