Abstract

A philosophically critical review of "The Fifth Season," a fictional work by N.K. Jemisin. In this piece I discuss the power of language and naming in creating and maintaining social structure and the dissemination of power within. I use the clear metaphors for racial and sexist discrimination in today's society with the fictional society in this piece as supporting arguments for my thesis.
